I am in ministry and often times I see in others and in myself that awful 4 letter word – Fear. It is such a spiritual killer and one our enemy uses frequently. I just picture satan with his bag of tricks (yes I have this actual picture in my head of him grabbing his tool bag with all the tricks he has) and he grabs fear when nothing else has worked. Actually, I see his tool bag with three compartments – Kill/Steal/Destroy.
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
There is nothing worse than when you see potential in someone you love but fear has stopped them right where they are and tries to push them back. So what can we do to combat fear and push forward in our faith?
- Call out to God in prayer. (Psalms 61:2)
- Feed your spirit by diving into God’s Word. (Hebrews 4:12)
- Share your fear with a trusted Christian friend. (Galatians 6:2)
- Testify how God helped you overcome your fears. (Revelation 12:11)
I know that right now (if you are in the throws of some serious fears) these seem impossible but I promise you, if you push your flesh aside and do even a little of each, you will see GREAT reward.
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18
The word love (used in this verse) in Greek is Agape. Agape love is the love that God has toward man. Agape love is what led Jesus to the cross to die for our sins. Since God is love and it is His nature to do all things out of love then agape is a perfect love. So now read that verse again. Do you see how calling out to the Lord, Feeding your Spirit with His word, and bearing your burdens to a friend can all help you KNOW the character of God. Therefore, once you know his character and know He is Love then what happens….
PEFECT LOVE CASTETH OUT ALL FEAR!
Goodbye to the enemy – tell him to take his tool bag with the three compartments and all his tricks and take a hike in Jesus name!
Love you all!
